Authorities release name of victim, suspect, details, concerning fatal Plymouth shooting with child present
A Massachusetts man is dead after a Friday afternoon shooting.
According to Chief Dana Flynn, at approximately 5:45 p.m. the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Communications Center began to receive numerous calls reporting a shooting and a person suffering from a gunshot wound in the public parking lot on Middle Street.
The first arriving officer confronted the suspect and took him into custody without incident.
The victim, a 41-year-old male was transported to the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth. He was pronounced dead at 6:28 p.m.
On Saturday, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz stated that the two parties were in a minor traffic incident and a physical altercation before the shooting occurred.
23-year-old David Jerome of Plymouth has been charged with murder, several gun charges, and reckless endangerment of a child as his 18-month-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.
41-year-old Brent Berkeley of Plymouth is the deceased.
Cruz stated that Jerome had an active LTC that was suspended Friday evening.
Witnesses stated 3-4 shots were fired in the incident.
The nearby Speedwell Tavern announced that they will be closed today and tomorrow, then back to business on Monday. They also announced that a fundraiser will be held for Berkeley.
“We will be dedicating our entire day of operation on Friday at Speedwell to the family of the victims. If you are a member of the community looking to show support through Speedwell, this is the day to do it. More details will emerge as we recover, and everyone will have a chance to let their energy be felt. We will start a fundraiser to those who are and are not able to make it. We will donate every single dime raised on that day right to the family so finances are the last thing on their mind.”
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created for Berkeley’s family as he leaves behind 2 children.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
