Authorities release name of Massachusetts man fatally shot by police

Authorities have identified a man who was fatally shot by police.
The Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are continuing the investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred in the Town of Boylston on March 5, 2025. Upon completion of its report, the MSP will submit its findings to the District Attorney.
On March 5th, the Town of Boylston urged all residents and motorists to avoid Central Street between French Drive and Cross Street due to an ongoing police investigation.
The deceased has been identified as Patrick Sargent, 25, of Boylston. His family is asking the media to respect their privacy at this time.
The District Attorney has engaged Attorney John Dawley, Sr. of Winchester, MA to conduct an external review of the case. Dawley served as the First Assistant District Attorney in Essex County for 20 years and spent another seven years as an Assistant District Attorney. He has also spent 17 years in private practice. Upon Dawley’s completion of his review, he will submit his conclusions to the District Attorney.
