Authorities release name of man who drowned after tipping over in kayak
The body of a kayaker who reportedly fell into a pond has been identified.
According to Michael Healey of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, divers recovered the body of the man just after 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Olney Pond in Lincoln Woods.
DEM is identifying Jason Robinson, 40, of Cranston, as the drowning victim.
“We offer sincere sympathies to Mr. Robinson’s loved ones. With the heatwave causing so many RIers to flock to the water today, we also urge everyone to be careful!”
Healey stated it is unknown if he was wearing a life jacket or not.
Just after 3:00 p.m., two witnesses told DEM that they saw a kayak overturn with the kayaker going into the pond.
Healey appreciated the response by Lincoln, Cumberland, Smithfield, and North Providence Fire and Rescue.
