Authorities release name of 58-year-old Massachusetts man who died from injuries sustained in highway pedestrian collision

Authorities have released the name of the deceased as they continue to investigate a fatal motor vehicle-pedestrian crash that occurred in Massachusetts on Monday night.

According to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, Quincy Police were dispatched to a crash with serious injuries just after 7:00 p.m. Monday. A preliminary investigation indicated the pedestrian was struck by a car while attempting to cross the Southern Artery (Route 3A) near Broad Street.

The pedestrian, William Jacobs, 58, of Weymouth, was taken by Brewster Ambulance Service to a Boston hospital where he succumbed to his injuries Tuesday morning, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey said.

The driver of the car, an 82-year-old Quincy man, was not injured and no charges were immediately filed.

The cause of the crash has not been determined and remains under investigation by officers of the Quincy Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.
