The victim of the fatal shooting early Wednesday morning in a BJ’s parking lot at 688 Providence Highway in Dedham is identified as 20-year-old Jaylani Cole of Brockton, Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey and Dedham Police Chief Michael d’Entremont said.

Cole was found suffering from gunshot wounds shortly after 3:30 a.m. after Dedham police received multiple 911 calls. He was later pronounced deceased at an area hospital.

Another shooting victim, a 20-year-old man, underwent surgery at an area hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.

The business was closed at the time of the incident and no arrests have been made.

“This is still an active and ongoing investigation. It is always a tragedy when a young life is taken. Our sympathies go out to Jaylani’s family and friends,” District Attorney Morrissey said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Dedham Police or the Massachusetts State Police tip line at the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office at 781-830-4990.

The investigation is being conducted by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office, Dedham Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

They are being assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Firearms Identification Section and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory.
