Authorities investigating after pedestrian killed by Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority train
EAST BRIDGEWATER — The following is a joint statement from East Bridgewater
Police Chief Michael Jenkins and West Bridgewater Police Chief Timothy Nixon after a man was struck and killed by a train this afternoon.:
“Today, members of the East Bridgewater and West Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments responded to a tragic incident involving a pedestrian and a commuter train. Despite the rapid response, the incident resulted in a fatality.
“This incident is being investigated in coordination with the MBTA Transit Police and other appropriate investigative authorities. Out of respect for the family involved and the ongoing investigation, no additional identifying information will be released at this time.
“This is a deeply difficult and traumatic incident for all, including our first responders who were on scene and continue to process what occurred. We extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this profoundly difficult time.
“We ask for the public’s understanding, patience, and compassion for the family, as well as for the emergency personnel who responded and continue to manage the emotional impact of this event.”
Superintendent of the Transit Police Department Richard Sullivan told Fall River Reporter that an adult intentionally entered the right of way as an MBTA CR train was approaching.
