Authorities identify drivers after multi-vehicle crash on Route 6 injures Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island residents, one transported by Medflight

Several people were injured, one of which is fighting for his life, after a multi-vehicle collision on Cape Cod Sunday.

According to police, at just after 6:45 a.m., Bourne PD and FD were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Scenic Hwy in the area of the Herring Run Rest Area.

When officers arrived, they found two vehicles were involved in a crash at the intersection of Scenic Hwy (Route 6) // Herring Pond Rd. The vehicles involved in the crash were a white 2026 GMC Terrain operated by 41-year-old Timothy Malone of Providence, RI and a tan 2016 Jeep Wrangler operated by 61-year-old Paul Hunnebeck from Kingston, NY.

The initial investigation found that the GMC Terrain was traveling eastbound on Scenic Hwy and failed to stop for the red light. The GMC Terrain “T-boned” the Jeep Wrangler traveling westbound and turning left into the Herring Run Rest Area. The force of the impact caused the Jeep to become airborne, roll over once, coming to rest on its wheels.

The operator of the GMC Terrain sustained possible life-threatening injuries and was transported by Medflight to an area trauma hospital. Officers on scene had to apply a tourniquet to his right upper arm to control arterial bleeding. The passenger of the GMC Terrain, a (44-year-old male from Brockton, MA, was transported by ambulance to another area trauma center for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The operator of the Jeep was transported to a different area hospital for what appeared to be minor non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
