PLYMOUTH – A Sutton woman pleaded not guilty to a charge that she recorded jurors deliberating a triple homicide case as they left the courthouse, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.
Dawn Light, 56, pleaded not guilty in Plymouth District Court today to one count of Aggravated Intimidation of a Witness. The Commonwealth requested that Light be held on $50,000 cash bail, with conditions that she stay away from the courthouse and grounds, stay away from the jury and witnesses in the case, and she was ordered not to disseminate any photos or videos that are stored in the iCloud. Judge Shelby Smith released Light on personal recognizance and adopted the conditions.
Members of the Massachusetts State Police Community Action Team have been assigned to assist with security and specifically to assist with juror safety and security at the Lindsay Clancy trial in Plymouth Superior Court. Yesterday, at approximately 4:16 p.m., troopers were notified by a court officer that there was a woman who was recording jurors on her phone as they exited the courthouse. The court officer reported to MSP that the woman was parked in a restricted access area for court employees, and the woman was not a court employee.
Troopers responded to the employee lot and located a blue Toyota Camry backed into the furthest parking space in the lot which faced the “restricted access” area of the courthouse. The sole occupant in the Camry was identified as Light. Light reported that she was not an employee of the court, and that she did not see the visibly posted signage that she was parked in a restricted area. Light denied filming anyone leaving the courthouse. Light provided consent to view her iPhone, and no photos were located in the
camera roll. She was then asked to show her recently deleted photos folder where a video was located that showed individuals walking out of the courthouse from earlier in the day. The individuals were identified as jurors, and Light was placed under arrest.
Light is next scheduled to appear in court on October 15.
Concerning the Clancy case itself, jurors today told the judge a second time that they can’t agree on a verdict. The judge cannot send jurors back if the jurors declare for a third time, leaving a hung jury a likely outcome but not guaranteed. Jurors have been sent home for the day.
