Area issued Winter Weather Advisory as several inches of snow expected

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the area.

The advisory will be in effect from 7:00 p.m. this evening to 1:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

Snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches. Wind gusting as high as 40 mph.

Portions of southeastern Massachusetts and all of Rhode Island except for Block Island are in the advisory.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

The forecast:

Today
Rain. High near 41. Northeast wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tonight
Rain before midnight, then rain and snow between midnight and 3am, then snow after 3am. Low around 28. North wind 14 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Tuesday
Snow, mainly before 10am. High near 36. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
