AAA: Gas prices in Massachusetts, the country, continue their decline
Westwood, MA, Jan. 2, 2024 — Strong gasoline demand over the holidays and ongoing tensions in the Red Sea aren’t enough to prevent gas prices from ending 2023 with declines, according to AAA.
As oil markets continue to watch for impacts from shippers reliant on the Red Sea to move cargo, American refiners continue to produce gasoline at a strong clip. Consequently, regional inventories remain plentiful even as Americans traveled at near-record levels between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
The average gas price in Massachusetts is down three cents from last week ($3.23), averaging $3.20 per gallon. Today’s price is 17 cents lower than a month ago ($3.37), and 15 cents lower than Jan. 2, 2023 ($3.35). Massachusetts’ average gas price is 10 cents higher than the national average.
“Ample supply of gasoline is keeping a lid on prices and oil traders seem to be shrugging off the situation in the Red Sea for now,” said Mark Schieldrop, Senior Spokesperson for AAA Northeast. “Prices could remain lower for the time being since demand typically cools in January.”
AAA Northeast’s Jan. 2 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be two cents lower than last week ($3.12), averaging $3.10 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 14 cents lower than a month ago ($3.24) and is 11 cents higher than this day last year ($3.21).

Paying $4.29 a gallon for diesel. AAA is a total fraud.
MAGA is a hate filled fascist cult.

It’s amazing that when the price is high the oil producers produce more. When the prices is low they produce less to try to bring the price up. Unfortunately too many people didn’t pay attention to social studies when they were teaching economics. Also even at its highest price we had some of the cheapest energy in the world. Go drive you great big diesel penis extension in Europe and see what will cost you.

Yeah idiot, had nothing to do with the JoeBama administration turning off fossil fuels. Stop responding to the posts here because you’re looking quite stupid. Did you go to school in the 1900’s? Social Studies and Economics, wow you must have done a deep dive? Diesel fuel is the economic engine that drives the shipping industry in America. Who the fuck cares about the cost of fuel in other countries? That’s why we call it Make AMERICA Great Again. Move to Northe Korea like your great friend Otto Wambier…
