A look back at Fall River’s Mark You Restaurant

Fall River residents remember China Royal and the recently closed Mee Sum, but there was another former Chinese restaurant that also captured our hearts and our stomachs.
Mark You Restaurant was a beloved fixture at 1236 Pleasant Street for decades and was known for its Chinese American cuisine. The restaurant operated for 70 years, serving generations of families from 1937 until its closure in 2007.
Mark You was founded by Gary Tow who crafted an affordable and tasty menu with dishes like the famous Fall River chow mein sandwich, veal cutlets, and pu pu platters.
Mary Tow ran the restaurant alongside her husband Danny in its later years.
By 2007, the building needed costly renovations leading to its closure.
On its final day in business on February 4, 2007, the restaurant was packed with loyal customers looking to have one last meal and bid farewell to a piece of Fall River’s history.
The site later became home to Quang’s Kitchen, which continued to serve some of the classic dishes that made Mark You famous until its closure in November of 2018.
Though Mark You Restaurant is no longer open, its legacy lives on in the memories of those who dined there.
