Man in western Massachusetts accused of stealing several pride flags, setting them on fire

Police in Massachusetts have charged one individual in connection with the theft and burning of pride flags.

According to police, at just before 1:30 a.m. on June 19th, two individuals were captured on surveillance video stealing eight Pride flags from the exterior awning of Thornes Marketplace, located at 150 Main Street. The flags were then placed in the eastbound lane of Main Street and set on fire. A motorist stopped and extinguished the flames.

Following an investigation, detectives identified David Sivokonenko, 22, of Westfield, as one of the individuals responsible. Sivokonenko has been charged with:

 Burning Personal Property

 Vandalizing Property

 Disorderly Conduct

Sivokonenko was arraigned this week in Northampton District Court.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify the second individual involved.
