Bristol County District Attorney’s Office issues update on fatal crash on I-195

Officials have issued an update concerning a local, fatal, weekend, highway crash.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, on Saturday, Massachusetts State Police responded to 911 calls reporting a vehicle in the woods shortly after 3:00 a.m. on Route 195 East near mile marker 21. 

Upon arrival, police located a red 2013 Chevrolet Cruze with catastrophic damage.  The vehicle was found to have struck a tree in a a wooded area to the right of the breakdown lane. 

Police located 36-year-old Crystal Mullens of East Freetown in the driver’s seat with significant injuries.  Mullens was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.  An adult male passenger, who was not injured, was also located on scene. 

According to someone close to Mullens, “she had a heart of gold. She would do anything for anyone no matter any situation she was in. This is a nightmare. My heart is broken for her and especially her 4 boys. She was a good person a great friend/sister. This is very hard.”

This crash is still being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police along with the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
