A changing of the guard is taking place at the City of Fall River City Clerk’s Office.

Alison Bouchard has served as the city clerk in Fall River for over 15 years and has worked in the city clerk’s office for 38 years but is retiring from her position.

The office is responsible for maintaining official city records, managing licenses and permits (such as dog licenses, marriage licenses, and business certificates), overseeing elections, and supporting city council operations, including preparing agendas, minutes, and ordinances.

In February of 2013, Bouchard was elected president of the Massachusetts City Clerks’ Association.

Bouchard received a citation at Tuesday’s city council meeting for her decades of service.

Also at the meeting, Mayor Paul Coogan’s request of the appointment of Assistant City Clerk Ines da Silva Paulino Leite to City Clerk was approved with all of the councilors present voting in favor.

City Council President Joe Camara commented that the appointment couldn’t happen to a nicer person.
