A quick afternoon thunderstorm that brought torrential rains, strong winds, and lightning strikes wreaked havoc in the Fall River area.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. the Swansea Fire Department responded to 11 Third Street for a garage engulfed in flames due to a lightning strike.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

No injuries were reported.

There were many calls for Fall River drivers stranded in flood waters. One of the more notable rescues was Route 24 South at Route 195 West which had to be shut down due to the flood waters and stuck motorists.
