Massachusetts man accused of driving 130 mph on way to New York tells State Police why he was in a rush

A Massachusetts man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he was driving recklessly and speeding.
According to State Police, on Saturday, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Troopers from Troop C – Tolland were conducting speed enforcement on I-84 west in the Town of Union, Connecticut. While in the area of Exit 74, a Trooper observed a grey Tesla traveling at an extremely high rate of speed, well above the posted limit.
The Trooper left his stationary position in an attempt to make contact with the vehicle. Due to the speed of the vehicle, it took several miles to catch up to it, all while the vehicle was utilizing all three lanes to pass traffic and continuing at a very high rate of speed. Once behind the vehicle, the Trooper clocked its speed at 130 mph. The Trooper conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle which pulled to the right shoulder at Exit 70 in the Town of Willington.
The driver was identified as 21-year-old Zhenyang Xu of Boston, MA.
Xu explained that he was driving that fast because he was in a rush to go see his sick friend in New York.
He was arrested without incident and transported to Troop C for processing.
Xu was charged with Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Improper Passing (6 Counts).
He was later released on a $1,000 bond awaiting a court date later this month at Rockville Superior Court.
