Name released of 43-year-old man who died from injuries sustained in fiery Rhode Island crash
Police have released the name of a man who died from a fiery crash early Saturday morning in Rhode Island.
According to police, just after midnight officers were dispatched to the area of 100 Centerville Road for a single car accident involving a black Nissan Rogue bearing a Tennessee plate that struck a stone wall at the center of a round-about and caught fire.
Arriving officers attempted to extinguish the blaze and to remove the operator but were unable to immediately gain access. The fire was extinguished by Warwick Fire personnel upon their arrival.
The operator and only occupant of the vehicle was a 43-year-old male who was found unconscious. He was extricated by Warwick Fire and after performing CPR was transported to KCMH by rescue. The male identified as Christopher Armstrong was later transferred to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced deceased and next of kin was notified.
The Warwick Police Traffic Units’ Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and through their initial investigation learned that the Nissan Rogue had been traveling southbound on Greenwich Avenue prior to turning westbound onto the Centerville Road Extension. The Nissan continued westbound on the extension to where it left the lane of travel in the vicinity of the Centerville Road round-about, continued across the two lanes of travel, then jumped the round-about curbing and struck the wall. There were no signs of braking and speed does appear to be factor.
A witness remained on scene, but if anyone has witnessed or has information, they are encouraged to contact the Traffic Unit at 401-468-4200. Anonymous tips can be submitted via the WARWICKPD app or text WARWICKPD to 847411
