Fall River organization honors, announces passing of, long-time community member as services announced
Greater Fall River RE-CREATION has announced the passing of a Fall River woman who gave decades to the community.
On Friday, November 22nd, 81-year-old Rosemary “Tita” Tanguay passed away.
The organization where she spent nearly 5 decades, issued a touching tribute.
“She officially began working for Greater Fall River RE-CREATION, then known as Community Development Recreation (CDREC), beginning in 1977. For over 47 years, Tita poured her heart, sweat, and soul into our agency. She played a major role in developing its foundation while serving as the organization’s Comptroller.
“Beneath her sassy personality, Tita was genuinely a loving and kind woman devoted to her family, friends, and especially, our RE-CREATION family. Over the course of her time working in the Fall River community, she rightfully earned the accolade of “Woman of the Year” in 2016 from our city’s paper, SouthCoast Tribune. In addition, Tita worked very closely with Lenny Kaplan, the creator and president of the very popular Ms. Senior Sweetheart Pageant, from the first event until its last with the original crew. For her enjoyment, Tita loved spending time with her family, vacationing in Florida, and watching movies especially classic Westerns whenever it was on television.
“In her own special way, she touched the lives of so many members in and around our community. Tita will forever be remembered for her persistence to be fearless towards any and all challenges placed in front of her and the quiet strength she wielded to succeed for the good of herself, her family, and our RE-CREATION family. And for all these things and more, our RE-CREATION family will sincerely miss her presence, wisdom, and the heart she gave until the very end for our organization. We love you, Tita“
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5th beginning at 4:00 p.m. and concluding at 5:30 p.m. at South Coast Funeral Home on Pleasant Street in Fall River. A celebration of life will follow at 5:30 p.m., concluding at 6:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, you can donate to the Rosemary “Tita” Tanguay Scholarship Fund. All checks should be made to Greater Fall River RE-CREATION, 45 Rock Street, Fall River, MA, 02720.
