Community launches effort to help Rehoboth business that lost everything in weekend fire
A major fire destroyed a Bristol County business over the weekend.
On Sunday afternoon, the Rehoboth Fire Department was dispatched to Winthrop Street for a structure fire near the Dighton line.
The trailer on site was destroyed and is a total loss.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, the business belongs to Mike Higgins, a local chainsaw wood sculptor.
“Mike lost all of his chainsaws and tools as well as many commissioned sculptures that were waiting to be delivered and others that were in the works. Mike was working on his inventory for the holidays and lost it all with no insurance to fall back on. We are hoping that Mike will be able to continue doing what he loves and that we can help him do that, but he has lost his only source of income and may need some financial assistance in the meantime as well.”
The structure was occupied at the time of the blaze but there were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
