Fall River Fire Department extinguishes flames at Spencer Borden Elementary School

Fall River, MA — Fall River firefighters extinguished flames at a city school on Wednesday.

According to Captain Eric Caffrey, at just before 2:30 p.m., the Fall River Fire Department was dispatched to Spencer Borden Elementary School, 1400 President Avenue, following a fire alarm activation.

Initial apparatus responding to the first alarm included Car 2, Engine 2, Engine 9, Engine 12, Platform 1, and Heavy Rescue 1.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke emanating from the building’s boiler room.

Command immediately requested an additional ladder truck to assist.

At 2:38 p.m., the fire was declared extinguished, though the building continued to have
heavy smoke conditions.

Car 3 arrived to serve as the Incident Safety Officer after the fire was confirmed.

Additional resources were deployed, including two command vehicles, three engines, two ladder trucks, and Heavy Rescue 1, alongside units from the Fall River Police Department and the Fall River Emergency Medical Services Department.

All students were evacuated safely, and there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation
