Ownership of unique Little Compton breakfast spot announces they have sold the business

A local unique breakfast spot is changing hands.

The Barn Restaurant on Main Street in Little Compton opened in 1987 as a renovated two-story barn that serves homestyle breakfast 7 days a week.

The Madden and Wordell families who purchased the eatery in 2008 have decided to sell in a letter addressed to customers.

Itt is as follows:

“In 2008 the Madden and Wordell families came together to purchase the Barn Restaurant. Our goal was to run the Barn and laid out a rough plan to rebuild Abraham Manchesters Restaurant which had burnt down on March 2nd 2002. At the time of the purchase the Madden’s had 5 children ranging from 2 to 9 and the Wordell’s had 4 children 12 to 17 and coincidently both families have a set of twins. Some of our children have worked for us since our purchase in different capacities.

“Both families raised our children at the restaurant while striving to ever improve our menu offerings. Our goal has always been to provide excellent service, consistent meals and provide an atmosphere where coming to work was fun.

“Through the years our “family” has grown to include a tremendous Staff and so many “regulars” who have helped us stay consistent and find improvements and try new menu combinations!

“16 plus years have gone by in a flash and unfortunately both families have come to terms with the fact that we won’t be rebuilding Abraham Manchesters Restaurant as previously planned. We have chalked this decision up to “life happens!”

“Although that was a tough reality, we have been faced with an even bigger decision when we were approached to sell The Barn a couple months ago. We have wrestled with this decision, thinking about all the friends we’ve made, thinking about those of you that we know on a first name basis, knowing you come from near and far to be served by us, worrying about what will happen to our staff, and so many other factors…..

“After thinking long and hard we have decided selling is in the best interest of our families. We all knew this day would eventually come but that hasn’t made it any easier!

“We are not completely clear on what the new owners have in store, but they are well aware of the following we have. We wish them well and hope you continue to patronize them in the future.

“Although we are not sure when we will depart but it is certain to be before the 1st of the year.

From the Madden’s and Wordell’s we THANK YOU!

Ownership did not reveal who the new owners are.
