A local man is accused of leaving the scene of a Fall River crash that allegedly led to road rage and left a man with a head injury.

According to Det. Sergeant Moses Pereira, at approximately 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, officers responded to the area of High Street and Prospect Street for what had been reported as a fight with weapons.

Upon arrival, officers located a man with what appeared to be an injury to the back of his head.

He indicated to officers that after a minor accident, he was involved in a road rage incident with the operator of another vehicle who assaulted him with a blunt object.

Shortly thereafter, officers located 40-year-old Jose Correa of Somerset, who indicated that he and the operator of another vehicle exchanged words while in their vehicles. The two men began to argue and at one point the interaction became physical. Correa indicated that during the incident he had a flashlight in his hand and may have struck the other party with it while he, himself, was being punched.

Correa was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of an accident-causing property damage, and failure to operate with care.

At Friday’s arraignment, Correa pled not guilty and was granted $500 cash bail.
