MassDOT worker struck and killed by vehicle while cleaning accident debris on Route 24

One person is dead after an incident on a local highway.

According to Tim McGuirk Interim Director of Media Relations for Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday, a vehicle struck a MassDOT worker who was picking up debris outside of their vehicle near Exit 28B (Route 106) on Route 24 northbound. The worker sustained fatal injuries and their name has not yet been released. 

Massachusetts State Police personnel responded to the scene from Troop D, the Plymouth County State Police Detective Unit, the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section, and the Crime Scene Services Section.

The vehicle that struck the worker remained on scene. 

Massachusetts State Police offered condolences to the family of the deceased.

For the safety of motorists and responding personnel, all northbound lanes were closed from approximately 10:30 p.m. until 1:20 a.m. when the scene investigation concluded.

The matter remains under investigation by the Plymouth County State Police Detectives Unit.

    What a shame. That Man making a living to support him and his family no less on the graveyard 🪦 Shift & someone obviously wasn’t paying attention with all the lights well lit and the worker doing his job 💪 & in a blink of an eye 👀 he’s goin.my prayers 🙏 go out for him and his family

    Was there a detail there to protect the worker, it was nighttime, with police presence at the time people tend to slow down in the area to be cleanrd

      It’s obvious he was without requisite safety measures that DOT withheld, such as flashing arrow which would have prevented him from contact.
