Students at Fall River’s Doran summer program learning how to bake and doing it for a cause

Fall River students are baking for a cause while learning skills this summer.

Students enrolled in the Doran Community School’s 21st Century Learning Summer Program are baking to raise money for the Forever Paws Animal Shelter.

According to Fall River Public Schools, the first through fifth graders are students in Karen Steele’s baking classes, where they bake dozens of sweet treats.

The students get to eat what they make but this year they also asked if they could give back to the community and came up with the idea of donating to the animal shelter.

On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, during lunch and again at dismissal time, the 5th graders hold a bake sale where school staff and families can purchase muffins, donuts, brownies, and other treats.

Kim Raposa thanked the staff of the program making sure they didn’t go unnoticed.

“Thank you to all of our Doran teachers and paras that chose to work with our scholars this summer! You all truly make a difference at the Doran School and to all the students’ lives that you touch each and every day! Thank you for always going above and beyond for our students, and more importantly showing our students how much their loved and worth in this world!

“Many don’t appreciate what teachers, paras, counselors, and Admin do on a daily basis because they don’t see the true dedication, time, effort, and care you all put into what you do. Not just 5 days per week, not for 7.0 hours per day, but all the extra time, and effort you dedicate to our students before and after school, evening events, summer and all that’s in between that goes unnoticed and are unpaid!!!”

The students are also accepting monetary donations. If you are interested in helping, please stop by the Doran School before Tuesday, July 30th. All money raised will be donated next Wednesday, July 31st to the Forever Paws Animal Shelter in Fall River.
