Massachusetts man keeps 30-year-pact with brother despite his death after $1 million State Lottery win
A Massachusetts man made a special pact with his brother and made sure he fulfilled it despite his death.
According to the Massachusetts Stare Lottery, Jeffrey Shigley is the first $1 million prize winner in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “Diamonds and Dollars” $5 instant ticket game.
Shigley, who is from of Shrewsbury, said that he has had a deal with his brother for over 30 years that if either one of them ever won big, they would split the prize, and that’s what he is going to do. Joined by his sister-in-law Linda at the Lottery’s Dorchester headquarters, Shigley opted to receive his prize in the form of a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes).
He purchased his winning ticket at Star Liquors, 507 Boston Turnpike in Shrewsbury, where he asked the clerk to pick any $5 ticket for him. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.
