A driver has been arrested on multiple charges after a wrong-way crash on Route 24 recently.

According to the State Police Association of Massachusetts, on April 29th, State Police Middleboro began receiving multiple reports of a wrong-way operator going northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 24 near the Bridgewater rest area.

Multiple Troopers from SP Middleboro and a K-9 unit began responding to the area in hopes of intercepting the vehicle before it further endangered any other motorists. Before Troopers could stop the wrong way operator, they collided with another vehicle, causing it to roll over and catch fire on Route 24 North in West Bridgewater.

Despite crashing, the wrong-way operator continued to drive. Troopers from several barracks worked together to shut down Route 24 South and used a tire-deflation device to halt the wrong-way vehicle.

State Police were able to take the operator into custody on various offenses, including OUI Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Leaving the Scene of Personal Injury.

The name of the suspect was not released.
