23-year-old Rhode Island woman facing several charges after being accused of dealing drugs near school
Attorney General Peter Neronha announced that a Pawtucket woman has been charged in Providence County Superior Court with multiple felony counts stemming from her arrest by the Pawtucket Police Department for alleged narcotics distribution from an apartment on Montgomery Street in Pawtucket.
On April 4, 2023, the Office of the Attorney General charged 23-year-old Emily Cortes by way of criminal information, with one count of drug possession with intent to deliver cocaine, one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver cocaine, one count of maintaining a common nuisance, one count of drug distribution withing 300 yards of a school, and one count of possession of less than 10grams of amphetamine.
As alleged in the criminal information, during August and September of 2022, the Pawtucket Police Special Squad, a unit charged with investigating drug violations, received numerous complaints of drug sales occurring near a residence on Montgomery Street in Pawtucket. As alleged in the information, investigators observed people frequently visiting the area on foot, allegedly buying drugs in the rear of the home, and using them nearby, causing quality of life issues for neighbors.
On September 28, 2022, members of the Pawtucket Police Department executed a warrant at the residence and arrested the defendant. As alleged in the criminal information, during their search of the residence, investigators seized cocaine, amphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.
The defendant is scheduled for a pre-arraignment conference on May 15, 2023, in Providence County Superior Court.
