Which Fall River area grocers are best on price and quality? Here is what the data shows
Researchers have released data that lets Massachusetts grocery shoppers know which chains are cheaper and have the best quality. Those at the top are Fall River area favorites.
Consumers’ Checkbook compared grocers using a 154-item list of common items to evaluate stores on price, quality of products and service.
When it comes to prices, three markets stood out.
Price Rite offered prices about 20 percent lower than the average compared to all other stores.
“The other two big savers were Market Basket and Walmart. Market Basket’s prices were about 18 percent lower than the all-store average; Walmart’s were 19 percent lower. For a family that spends $250 per week at the supermarket, an 18 percent price difference could total more than $2,300 a year in savings.”
Market Basket also rated well in quality considering how low their prices are.
Whole Foods rated high in quality; however, it is one of the most expensive grocery store chains in the area.
Stop & Shop and Shaw’s ranked in the middle on pricing and low overall on quality, however, the data suggested that prices fluctuate depending on what Stop & Shop location you go to meaning some locations may be cheaper than other grocers and others may rank lower for pricing.

Amaral’s market in Fall River beats them all in quality,freshness, and price located on globe street check them out for yourself.

This store used to sell malasadas from a bakery on Columbia St. Then changed to a different bakery. The new donuts are terrible. When I asked the manager why they changed he told me because the old bakery wanted to go up in price by a quarter. A freaking quarter. Amarals Market is living in the stone age, eggs are 150 dollars a case as opposed to the old price of 30 dollars a case. Pure freaking ignorance, I stopped shopping there and now go directly to Tony’s Bakery for malasadas. Best in town.
