Real or fake? Man reaches for gun after OUI traffic stop in Bristol County
Local police are looking to help educate the public after an incident that took place recently involving a traffic stop and a gun.
According to Dighton Police, while on patrol Friday tonight, FTO Barros and Ofc. Almeida effected a motor vehicle stop in town.
As Ofc. Almeida approached the driver’s side window, the operator reached for what you see in the above picture. Ofc. Almeida immediately gave verbal commands to the operator to show his hands, but he kept reaching.
Dighton PD wanted to remind the public of the quick decisions that officers have to make on a daily basis that can be life or death situations.
“These are the decisions our officers are faced with; decisions that can impact so many lives in the blink of an eye. What would you do in that instant as the officer? Make the call”
DPD stated that the incident resulted in an arrest for OUI. The gun ended up being an airsoft-type.
“The post is to educate the public that police officers, not only here in Dighton, but all over the country are forced to make split-second decisions every day. We don’t go out there looking to hurt anyone, and thankfully this did not end in disaster.”
