Fall River sandwich shop running into issues as fraudulent social media page stealing money from customers
A popular Fall River sandwich shop and some of their customers are running into issues concerning an apparent social media scam.
Marcucci’s Bakery’s Facebook page has apparently been hijacked and is attempting to take advantage of customers.
Fans of the eatery contacted Fall River Reporter with concerns about the page. Once we visited the page, it was clear that something was off right off the bat. The new “owners” of the page are taking orders online from anywhere and accepting payments through apps such as Venmo and PayPal. There are posts on the page asking people to direct message them for online orders. One person asked if they were taking orders even for someone living in Florida and they said yes. Customers that wished to remain anonymous say that they are taking payment in advance and telling them to pick the order up at the bakery with the bakery knowing nothing about the order.
Reporter contacted Marcucci’s to get their side of things. Workers expressed that they do not do online ordering.
We also asked if they were running into customer complaints and if the page had been hijacked. Employees stated that customer complaints haven’t been too severe, and that owner Jessie DaSilva has been trying to get Facebook to do something about the page. Some customers told us that Marcucci’s has lost business due to the scam.
So, make sure if you are looking to pick up one of the famous grinders or pizza trays at 1076 Bedford Street, that you call ahead or drop by, don’t place your order on Facebook.

Would never happen with a strong password and two-factor authentication. If you’re not familiar with internet security do some research or risk losing your web page or Facebook page. Facebook, Google and Twitter basically have no customer service so once you run into a problem like this it becomes a major nightmare.
