Officials rescue 7-year-old Massachusetts boy from second story window during standoff after stabbing
A Massachusetts man has been arrested after a standoff involving a stabbing and a young child.
Saturday evening, police in Plymouth responded to a stabbing on the lower end of Samoset Street. The victim was transported to South Shore Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, Herman Smith, 50, of Plymouth, then barricaded himself inside of a residence with a seven-year-old boy.
Police say he refused all commands to exit and/or release the child.
Due to all circumstances, Metro-LEC assets were called in, and successfully rescued the boy from a second story window.
SWAT then swept the residence and found Smith hiding in a closet. He was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with several felony charges.
Plymouth PD thanked Plymouth, Metro-LEC, State, Federal Officers, Plymouth Fire Department, and Brewster ambulance for their support in the incident and the public for staying away from the scene.
