Two separate busts by Massachusetts State Police nets 30,000 doses of fentanyl, 27,480 bags of fentanyl/heroin

Two busts by the Massachusetts State Police have netted big quantities of fentanyl and heroin.

According to Massachusetts State Police, on Wednesday, members of the Massachusetts State Police CINRET West narcotics enforcement task force, the State Police Gang Unit, the Springfield Police Department Firearms Investigations Unit, and the State Police Detective Unit for Hampden County executed a search warrant on Miller Street that resulted in the recovery of more than 27,000 individual bags of suspected heroin or fentanyl and one arrest.

The multi-agency effort was the culmination of a months-long heroin distribution investigation into a drug trafficking organization operating in Hampden County. A subsequent search of the residence yielded the following:

Approximately 27,480 individual bags of suspected heroin and/or fentanyl;
Approximately 122 grams of suspected fentanyl pills;
Approximately 45 grams of suspected cocaine;
A Smith & Wesson M&P Shield handgun loaded with a magazine holding nine .40 caliber rounds;
A Canik TP9sa Model 2 firearm loaded with a magazine holding nine 9mm rounds reported stolen in Agawam in 2018;
A KCI .40 caliber 50-round capacity drum magazine loaded with 48 rounds; and
A still-to-be determined amount of US currency pending an official count.

Troopers, Officers, and Task Force Officers located a target of the investigation and a resident of the address searched, Israel Silva-Guzman, inside and placed him under arrest without incident. He was transported to the Springfield Police Department and booked on firearms charges (subsequent offense) and related drug charges.

The Massachusetts State Police CINRET West unit is one of three regional narcotics task forces that include local and federal law enforcement officers. CINRET stands for Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction and Enforcement Team.

Also, on Tuesday, members of the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force (Springfield Resident Office) and the Massachusetts State Police Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics (CINRET) West Unit conducted a joint operation in the City of Springfield.

During the operation, a motor vehicle was discovered abandoned on Andrew Street in Springfield. Members of the DEA Task Force and CINRET conducted an inventory of the vehicle, which yielded approximately 30,000 dosage units of suspected fentanyl.

The investigation is ongoing.
