Several arrests made after police in Rhode Island break up party with up to 400 people

Police in Rhode Island arrested several people after a reported drunken party with hundreds in attendance.

On Saturday, at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the South Kingstown Police Department responded to the 1600 block of Kingstown Road for a report of a large party with excessive noise.

According to South Kingstown Police, upon arrival, officers observed 350 to 400 people at the residence. An investigation by responding officers revealed the residence was rented by University of Rhode Island students and many in attendance were URI students. Officers observed numerous intoxicated individuals and many red solo cups strewn around the property.

The South Kingstown Police made the following arrests:

• 20-year-old Anthony Ghalbouni of Narragansett, RI – Possession of Beverage by Underage Person.
• 20-year-old Ryan P. Bromm of Fanwood, NJ – Obstructing an Officer in Execution of Duty.
• 20-year-old Sean Healy of Montville, NJ – Obstruction an Officer in Execution of Duty.
• 19-year-old James Giesen of Waterbury, CT – Obstruction an Officer in Execution of Duty and Furnishing/ Procurement of Alcoholic Beverage under 21 by person 18 to 21.

Police stated that the investigation continues and further charges may be sought against others in attendance and the owner(s) of the property. Other discipline measures may also be sought by the University against students involved.

“We are proud to be home to URI and consider it an important part of our community, but we will not turn a blind eye to these kinds of gatherings in South Kingstown,” said Matthew C. Moynihan, South Kingstown Chief of Police. “We want our message to be clear: we will enforce all town ordinances and state laws – include those related to underage drinking, social host violations and residential occupancy limits. We appreciate the continued collaboration of the University and the URI Police and hope that the students will make better choices understanding that their actions will have consequences.”
