One dead, one rescued by bystanders after fiery crash in Attleboro
ATTLEBORO — Chief Scott Lachance reports that the Attleboro Fire Department responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash this evening.
At approximately 5:20 p.m., Attleboro Fire responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle crash in the area of South Avenue at West Street. Upon arrival, first responders found a vehicle that had crashed into a tree and was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters worked to quickly extinguish the fire.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of next-of-kin.
Prior to first responders’ arrival, bystanders pulled a passenger out of the vehicle. The passenger was treated on scene and later transported to a nearby hospital.
The Attleboro Police Department also responded to provide assistance.
The crash is under investigation by State Police assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and the Attleboro Fire Department.
