Photo exhibit, butterfly presentation coming to Fall River Public Library
Both a photographic exhibit and a butterfly presentation are coming to the Fall River Public Library
Welcome, springtime! Naturalist John Root will give a multimedia presentation on “Butterflies of the World” at the Fall River Public Library, 104 North Main Street in Fall River, on Tuesday, May 1, at 6:30 p.m.
This free program features beautiful images of butterflies from every major continent throughout their life cycles. Participants learn fascinating facts about these enchanting insects, including myths and legends about butterflies in different cultures, distinguishing characteristics of the five butterfly families, wing coloration, feeding behavior, mating, and migration. Information about landscaping for butterflies, including instruction in establishing butterfly gardens, is also presented. Comments and questions from the audience are welcome. Refreshments will be served.
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, and with additional support from the Friends of the Fall River Public Library.
The Fall River Public Library will host a photographic exhibit, “The Bay State: A Multicultural Landscape,” honoring that multi-faceted cultural heritage. Photographs by nationally known photographer Mark Chester will be on display at the library throughout the month of May, 2018.
The Mark Chester Diversity Project is a traveling photography exhibit designed to convey the many faces of immigrants in American society. It includes portraits of more than 400 newly naturalized U.S. citizens who hail from over 190 countries and territories around the globe and are now residents of Massachusetts. Represented are new Americans from Cape Verde, Ecuador, Oman, Iceland, Eritrea, Paraguay, and many other nations.
The exhibit may be viewed all through May at the Fall River Public Library, 104 North Main Street, Fall River, during the hours the library is open: Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Bay State: A Multicultural Landscape is sponsored in part by the Skywalk Observatory at the Prudential Center, F.L. Roberts & Company, and Harry Grodsky & Co., Inc., and with support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
