Easton, West Bridgewater, Stoughton Fire Departments extinguish blaze
EASTON — Chief Justin Alexander reports that the Easton Fire Department responded to a working fire in a vacant home deep in the woods off Turnpike Street on Thursday afternoon.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., Easton firefighters were dispatched to 313 Turnpike St. for a report of a fire.
Chief Alexander was first to arrive at the scene and found heavy fire showing from a vacant home that was about 700-feet into the woods off Turnpike Street.
Easton firefighters, with mutual aid support at the scene from the West Bridgwater Fire Department and Stoughton Fire Department, stretched two hose lines through hundreds of feet of woods to the scene of the blaze.
Crews attacked the fire defensively at first, and knocked down the heavy fire from outside the structure before entering the home to extinguish remaining flames and overhaul the building.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Easton Fire Department and the State Police, Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The Easton Police Department, Easton Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Mansfield Emergency Management Agency and Brewster Ambulance assisted at the scene as well. The Brockton Fire Department and Raynham Fire Department provided mutual aid in Easton while crews battled the blaze.
“Easton firefighters and our mutual aid partners did a great job stopping this blaze despite serious challenges with accessing the scene and getting water to the fire,” said Chief Alexander.
