2-month-old boy dies while in the custody of DCYF
A 2-month-old boy tragically passed away on Sunday.
According to Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey, the incident was reported to police at 1:50 p.m. by the medical examiner’s office. Police determined that the child was transported to the hospital by parents just after 11:00 a.m. and the child was pronounced deceased at 12:23 p.m. after resuscitation efforts failed.
Lacey stated that an autopsy was performed and the results are yet to be confirmed.
Both parents reside in Westerly.
The father was arrested for an outstanding bench warrant and violation of a no contact order with the mother being the protected party.
The boy was in temporary DCYF custody at the time of his death.
The investigation is ongoing.
