A woman was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted murder, after being stopped by a Good Samaritan.

According to police, at approximately 11:00 a.m. on March 5, the Walpole Police Department received a call regarding a reported erratic operator driving a silver Honda sedan. The vehicle was reportedly traveling toward Walpole High School on Common Street.

A short time after the call, an officer located a vehicle consistent with the description provided by the caller near Walpole High School, at which time the officer called in a traffic stop on Common Street at Shawnee Street.

Police stated that the operator was uncooperative with the officer, and on several occasions, stopped her vehicle, yelled profanities at the officer, and then fled on Common Street. The operator of the vehicle failed to stop after the officer displayed emergency lights and siren and a pursuit began. The vehicle failed to stop at a red light on Common Street, turned onto Darwin Lane, into a driveway, over a lawn, and avoided containment by several police cruisers. The vehicle was contained on Common Street momentarily, when two officers approached the vehicle on foot. The operator suddenly and deliberately accelerated, attempting to strike the officers who were forced to take evasive action to avoid being hit, according to police.

The suspect executed a left turn between two cruisers, traveling westbound on Common Street, when a Good Samaritan witness attempted to contain the vehicle and a head-on crash occurred. Police stated that neither operator was injured.

The female operator was placed under arrest and charged with multiple offenses, including failing to stop for police officer, assault & battery – dangerous weapon (vehicle) and attempted murder.
