Massachusetts COVID-19 hospitalizations drop, positive test rate down to 4.67%, 84 more reported deaths

Massachusetts saw a decrease in active cases, hospitalizations, and positive test rate in Wednesday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 3,022 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Tuesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw another decrease to 4.67%. Today’s rate is the lowest it has been since the very end of November. The rate was also 3.3% on November 23rd.

Massachusetts had seen 2,215 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 484,639 with 84 more reported dead (83 confirmed, 1 probable) for a total of 14,304 (14,013 confirmed, 291 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 13,192,478 after 96,203 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths is currently 57.

Estimated active cases decreased by over 4,000 to 80,909.

Hospitalizations have increased in 90 of the last 135 days and 65 of the last 94, but saw a decrease of 21 to see the total lower to 1,930. COVID-19 hospitalizations have continued to decrease as of late as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the January 21st report, Fall River has a 143.2 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (153.6 last week). New Bedford saw an increase to 133.0 (was 134.3). Westport is also in the red at 95.9 (was 96.4), Swansea is at 104.3 and was 109.3 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 93.7 (was 104.9). Freetown increased to 107.3 from 112.1. Dartmouth is currently at 97.0 after seeing 113.2 last week. Acushnet has the highest rate in Bristol County at 167.5.

• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 20,108

Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on January 21st.

As of January 27th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 25,301,166 cases of COVID-19 with 423,519 reported deaths.
