COVID-19 cases among Massachusetts students more than double from last week

COVID-19 cases among Massachusetts schools saw a big uptick.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 398 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from November 12-18. More than doubling the total from last week. 254 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 652.

The report from the week prior revealed that 348 tested positive. 191 of the positives were students and 157 were staff.

The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.

Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from November 12-18.

Attleboro: 7 students, 6 staff
Dartmouth: 1 student
Fairhaven: 2 students
Fall River: 4 student and 2 staff
New Bedford: 2 students and 6 staff
Plymouth: 1 student
Seekonk: 3 students and 2 staff
Somerset: 1 student and 1 staff
Swansea: 13 students and 1 staff
Taunton: 12 students
Westport: 1 student
