Massachusetts sees increase in COVID-19 deaths, country sees highest daily case count since July

Massachusetts saw an increase in deaths in Saturday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 550 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Friday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased to 1.3% from 1.4%, after four increases in five days.

Massachusetts had seen 702 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 139,903 with 21 more reported dead for a total of 9,503.

12,395 tests were performed on new individuals, over 1,500 less than yesterday’s report, to increase the amount of individuals tested to 2,499,045. The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 5,088,797.

The 3 day average of COVID-19 deaths increased to 21 from 18.

Hospitalizations have increased in 21 of the last 33 days, but decreased by 13 today to see the total rise to 500.

Massachusetts residents subject to COVID-19 quarantine by current status up to October 14th
• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 94,733
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 90,607
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 4,126

It was announced yesterday that Fall River is now in the red with an 8.5% Average Daily Incidence Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days). Fairhaven sits at 9.8%. New Bedford continues to be in the red at 12.2%. Plymouth is in the red at 12.8%, Dartmouth is in at 9.7%. Berkley moves into the red at 9.5%. Acushnet remains in the red at 13.7%. Attleboro remains in the red at 12.7%.

According to the CDC, as of October 17th, the total amount of COVID-19 cases in the country is 8,028,332 with 217,918 dead.

Today’s total reported cases of COVID-19 in the United States is the highest total since July 24th.
