Man accused of intentionally burning and injuring dog
A local man is being accused of intentionally burning and injuring a dog.
On September 19, 2020, according to RISPCA, 26-year-old James Kelly, formerly of Trenton Street in Pawtucket, turned himself in to the Pawtucket Police Department on an active arrest warrant on two counts of a violation of Rhode Island General Law 4-1-5, malicious injury or killing of an animal.
Kelly’s arrest was the result of a two-month long investigation by the Rhode Island SPCA Division of Law Enforcement. In July, 2020, Kelly brought an approximately two-year-old female mixed breed canine to a local veterinarian for treatment of a severe leg fracture.
During the initial examination, the veterinarian also discovered a large burn on the canine’s leg. During the investigation, it was determined that the burn was the result of a hairdryer used on the canine. It was concluded that neither injury was accidental in nature.
Both counts against Kelly are felonies and carry a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison, up to a one thousand dollar fine and up to fifty hours of community service.

I’m ABSOLUTELY fed up of seeing horrific cruelty to innocent animals and even more fed up of seeing these being inappropriately punished, it should be exactly the same punishment as they would get for abusing/torturing a person, animals are no different from us, THEY FEEL SUFFERING AND PAIN JUST AS WE DO, I wonder if he has any previous convictions for drugs or violence, I think people who HAVE been convicted for these should be banned from having any pets, I’ve seen so much cruelty that has happened while on drugs and they are now capable of caring for a pet if they are on drugs, they can’t even look after themselves
