Fall River Community Development Agency earns national award
Fall River, Massachusetts-The National Community Development Association (NCDA) has awarded the Fall River Community Development Agency (FRCDA) for its involvement and investment in the Fall River Knitting Mill Apartments with the Audrey Nelson Community Development Achievement Award.
The Fall River Knitting Mill Apartments owned by Liberty Housing, Inc. is a 24 million dollar conversion of commercial mill space into mixed-income residential housing. The development includes 99 affordable rental units for seniors age 62 years and older and a new Senior Center for the City’s senior population.
“Our seniors deserve a beautiful place to live and a community center to interact with others” said Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan. “I would like to thank the Fall River Community Development Agency for their dedication to providing a high quality area for our seniors, and the National Community Development Association for this honorable award”.
The Audrey Nelson Award recognizes exemplary uses of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and other federal funding. The award is named in honor of Audrey Nelson, the first Deputy Executive Secretary of NCDA.
FRCDA is one of five organizations to receive the award throughout the United States.
