A High Wind Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service as rain is set to begin over the next couple of days.

From late Thursday night through Friday morning a High Wind Watch has been issued for Southern Bristol MA, Southern Plymouth MA, Barnstable MA, Dukes MA and Nantucket MA Counties along with, Newport RI and Block Island RI Counties.

Southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected with gusts up to 60 mph possible.

Period of strongest winds mainly between the pre-dawn hours Friday to mid-Friday morning.

Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

A good amount of rain is also expected.

Long, drawn-out period of rain begins tonight, continuing into early Friday; period of enhanced/possibly heavy rainfall after midnight Thursday night into early Friday along/ahead of a cold front. A few thunder rumbles are possible in that timeframe as well, especially southeast of I-95.

Impact from this amount of rain – around 1-1.5″ – is mainly limited to nuisance poor-drainage flooding from leaf-clogged storm drains.
