Westport man killed in weekend motorcycle crash
Motorcycle riding fatalities continue a sobering trend as another has lost a life.
According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the crash occurred On Route 18 near the intersection with Walnut Street in New Bedford on Saturday evening around 7 pm. When police and rescue personnel arrived on scene, they located the victim, Andrew Mindyas, 63, of Westport, and rushed him to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was travelling at a high rate of speed through the intersection when he struck the curb, entered the center median and struck a large cobblestone planter. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
