Field set for Fall River recall election
FALL RIVER – The field is set for the March 12 mayoral recall election in Fall River.
Mayor Jasiel Correia, the subject of the recall, will be running against familiar names in School Committee Member Paul Coogan, City Councilor Joseph Camara and former City Councilor and School Committee Member Kyle Riley.
Political newcomer Erica Scott-Pacheco, the director of development for the South Coastal Counties Legal Services in Fall River, will be the fifth mayoral candidate on the special election ballot.
A dozen prospective candidates took out nomination papers, and had until 5 p.m. on Jan. 22 to return the papers with at least 300 signatures from registered voters.
Former mayors Will Flanagan, who was recalled in 2014, and Sam Sutter, who won that recall election but was defeated a year later by Correia, announced earlier this month that they would not run in this year’s special election.
In a special meeting on Jan. 2, the Fall River City Council set the date for the recall election. Correia, in his second term in office, is facing 13 federal counts of wire and tax fraud stemming from allegations that he used investor money for his own personal use instead of developing his SnoOwl app.
