A Massachusetts teen facing a list of charges after a tussle with authorities following a Bristol County motorcycle crash was arraigned Monday in Fall River Superior Court.
According to Seekonk Police, on August 13th, at just before 12:30 p.m., multiple police units were dispatched to the area of 178 Central Avenue (Rt. 152) for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.
Upon arrival, officers determined that the motorcycle had rear-ended a sedan that was stopped in the roadway. Although there were no initial reports of obvious injuries, Seekonk Fire/Rescue was dispatched due to the nature of the crash.
While the motorcycle operator was being medically evaluated in the rear of an ambulance, officers determined that he had provided false information during the course of their investigation. Shortly thereafter, the male suspect, 19-year-old Nathaniel A. Cronin of Falmouth, fled from the rear of the ambulance, prompting officers to pursue on foot.
Cronin was located on nearby Edwards Avenue in the area of Foch Avenue. As officers attempted to take him into custody, an altercation ensued, resulting in a struggle in the roadway. During the struggle, Cronin allegedly managed to grab an officer’s firearm and partially remove it from its holster. One round was discharged, however, no one was struck by the bullet. Officers were ultimately able to gain control of Cronin and take him into custody.
Cronin was charged with A&B Attempt to Disarm Police Officer, A&B on Police Officer (x2), Attempted A&B by Discharging Firearm, Discharge Firearm within 500ft of Dwelling, Trespass, Disturbing the Peace, Disorderly Conduct, Vandalize Property, Resist Arrest, Operate MV, Suspended License, False Name to Police Officer, Attaching Wrong MV Plate, Unregistered MV, and Uninsured MV.
According to court records, after previously being arraigned in District Court, Cronin was indicted in Superior Court on September 24th on A&B Attempt to Disarm Police Officer, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault & Battery on a Police Officer (2 counts), Resist Arrest, False Name to Police Officer, Operating a Motor Vehicle on Suspended License Subsequent Offense, and Possessing/Receiving a Motor Vehicle with a Defaced VIN.
Cronin pled not guilty Monday in Fall River Superior Court and was held without bail pending a dangerousness ruling with a pretrial conference scheduled for November 19th.
