Friends and students are raising money through multiple avenues for Tim Gillett, owner of Gillett’s Martial Arts, after he suffered multiple strokes and was hospitalized.

A GoFundMe fundraiser, which has raised over $8,000 as of this writing, recognized Gillett as “someone who makes people feel like they have known him forever. As the owner of Gillett’s Martial Arts, Tim has built more than a gym. Tim has built a community rooted in service, compassion, and showing up when people need help most.”

Two events are also planned.

A breathwork fundraiser organized by Amy Medeiros will take place on Saturday, October 17th, at Gillett’s MMA on Shove Street in Tiverton. You can register here: https://www.almwellco.com/bwfundraiser

Gillett’s gym is hosting Fight Night for Tim Gillett on Friday, November 14th. Weigh-ins are at 3:00 p.m., doors open to the public at 5:00 p.m., and fights start at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $25. Raffles and food will be available. All proceeds go to Tim’s medical fund. If local businesses are interested in donating to the raffle they can reach out to Alesia Hooper.

Gillett recently posted an update on his progress. He is working on learning to walk again, continuing with physical therapy, and even working on teaching himself to play guitar again, but has a long road to recovery. He is still struggling with his vision and sleep, along with other effects from the stroke and brain injury. Gillet vows to never quit or give up and asks people to continue to visit the school/gym as it is still open.
