FALL RIVER ─As the three alarm fire at the corner of Rodman Street and South Main Street are still battling the fire that has reportedly reignited around 11 a.m., the city is ordering some of the buildings to be taken down according to a source due to a massive storm approaching, according to city building inspector Glenn Hathaway.
Meanwhile, one of the buildings most heavily damaged at 308 South Main Street is now owned by the city after a tax title taking in May for outstanding taxes from former owner, Moses Raposa who is deceased, according to Matthew Thomas, the city’s real estate attorney.
Thomas said the building is insured and will not cost the city to demolish it. The building is assessed at $500,000.
The city was working on putting the property up for sale.
Thomas said that the city had given a notice to quit, an eviction, to a barber shop owner located on the first floor and Raposa’s son, Brian Raposa who was the sole resident in the building.
