A motorcyclist who died after a collision that took place last week in Rhode Island is being remembered.
According to Chief of Police Eric Rollinson, at approximately 10:00 p.m. on September 11th, Scituate police and fire personnel responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a flatbed tow truck on Tunk Hill Road near the Potterville Fire Station.
Based on preliminary witness statements, the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Tunk Hill Road when a flatbed tow truck exited a driveway with its amber emergency lights activated. The motorcycle operator was unable to stop and collided with the tow truck. As a result of the impact, the operator was ejected from the motorcycle.
The motorcycle operator has been identified as Douglas Larose, a 22-year-old Foster resident, who sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was the sole occupant of the motorcycle at the time of the crash. The tow truck operator was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Rhode Island State Police responded to the scene and assisted with the accident reconstruction investigation.
Preliminary findings indicate that speed was a contributing factor.
According to an obituary, Larose recently earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Johnson & Wales University. He worked as a glazier for Hareld Glass in Warwick, R.I., and Modern Glass & Aluminum in South Easton, Mass.
Friends and family remembered him as independent, mechanically gifted, and quick to make friends. He loved restoring Acuras, ATVs, and motorcycles, playing guitar, hiking, and the Patriots. He also volunteered at the Cranston Animal Shelter and recently adopted a puppy named Benny.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created for the family.
A memorial gathering honoring Doug’s life will be held at a time to be announced. The family is urging people wishing to honor Douglas to donate to their local animal shelter. Arrangements are by the Iannotti Funeral Home.
The crash remains under investigation.
